I'm so excited! A trailer for Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland has been leaked online. I found about it tonight and I wanted to share it with everyone. The film is slated to be released in theaters and IMAX early next year.

Woot!

I love the book and I know it has been tranlated to movies dozens of time.  i can't wait to see Tim Burton's version though.

The Pebbles
alyson
[info]tarebear23

Many years ago in a small village, a farmer had the misfortune of owing a large sum of money to a village moneylender.

The moneylender, who was an awful, mean man, fancied the farmer's beautiful daughter. Since the farmer was unable to pay the debt, the moneylender proposed a deal.

He said he would forgo the farmer's debt if he could marry his daughter. Both the farmer and his daughter were horrified by the proposal. So the cunning money-lender suggested that they let providence decide the matter. He told them that he would put a black pebble and a white pebble into an empty money bag.

Then the girl would have to pick one pebble from the bag.
  1. If she picked the black pebble, she would become his wife and her father's debt would be forgiven.
  2. If she picked the white pebble she need not marry him and her father's debt would still be forgiven.
  3. But if she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into jail.
They were standing on a pebble strewn path in the farmer's field. As they talked, the moneylender bent over to pick up two pebbles. As he picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two black pebbles and put them into the bag. He then told the girl to pick a pebble from the bag.

Now, imagine that you were standing in the field.

What would you have done if you were the girl?

If you had to advise her, what would you have told her? )

Would you have thought to do what she did?

Did You Ever Imagine

Personally, I didn't, but I try to keep a healthy balance between my computer time and my gimik (going out) time.  I cannot help being on the computer as I need it for work, and I also use it to update myself with friends on the other side of the world.   But as much as possible, I don't let it compromise my RL.  I still need to go out in the big world or I'll probably go insane!

And in the words of Anthony Robbins:  “Live life fully while you’re here. Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird. Go out and screw up! You’re going to anyway, so you might as well enjoy the process. Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes: find the cause of your problem and eliminate it. Don’t try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human.”

At the end of the day, no matter how many hours you have been in front of a desktop or laptop, you still need that human interaction that no lifeless machine can ever replace -- no matter how much sci-fi robot movies tell you otherwise.

So get out there and breathe some fresh air!

Coffee Art
meryl
[info]tarebear23

Whenever I order coffee, I always look forward to what I wouild see "drawn" on it. It’s almost a shame to stir and drink it.

But as much as I like coffee art, I like more the smell of coffee as it reaches my nose and the taste of it in my tongue.

So, the next time you enjoy a cup of joe, check to see the artwork designed on. The whole cofee experience might get better.

This afternoon...
meryl
[info]tarebear23

My current afternoon snack — bananacue mom brought home. One of my favorite local delicacies. Yuuuum! And yes I happen to have a sweet tooth.  I can't avoid it.  It's in my Filipino blood.

Bananacue is a classic Filipino merienda (snack) you can usually buy from street vendors in the early afternoon. It is made out of fat bananas called “saba,” which is covered in brown sugar before being placed into a deep fryer. Once fried, the banana gets skewered onto a stick. The heat softens the banana while caramelizing the sugar, giving the banana a delicious, gooey texture within the crunchy coat of caramel. — from pinoyfood website

From Afterellen.com:  Britney Spears has introduced several fragrances into the world since becoming a famous pop star. Her latest is one that you might actually be interested in giving a try.

With one spray of Mo, Britney says, the gays will come running — lesbians included.

p.s. It's just a spoof commercial of course, so don't go to the malls just yet.  ;-)

The Chaos
meryl
[info]tarebear23

The Chaos

Dearest creature in creation,
Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.

Just compare heart, beard, and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it's written.)
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as plaque and ague.
But be careful how you speak:
Say break and steak, but bleak and streak;
Cloven, oven, how and low,
Script, receipt, show, poem, and toe.

Hear me say, devoid of trickery,
Daughter, laughter, and Terpsichore,
Typhoid, measles, topsails, aisles,
Exiles, similes, and reviles;
Scholar, vicar, and cigar,
Solar, mica, war and far;
One, anemone, Balmoral,
Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel;
Gertrude, German, wind and mind,
Scene, Melpomene, mankind.

Billet does not rhyme with ballet,
Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet.
Blood and flood are not like food,
Nor is mould like should and would.
Viscous, viscount, load and broad,
Toward, to forward, to reward.
And your pronunciation's OK
When you correctly say croquet,
Rounded, wounded, grieve and sieve,
Friend and fiend, alive and live.

Ivy, privy, famous; clamour
And enamour rhyme with hammer.
River, rival, tomb, bomb, comb,
Doll and roll and some and home.
Stranger does not rhyme with anger,
Neither does devour with clangour.
Souls but foul, haunt but aunt,
Font, front, wont, want, grand, and grant,
Shoes, goes, does. Now first say finger,
And then singer, ginger, linger,
Real, zeal, mauve, gauze, gouge and gauge,
Marriage, foliage, mirage, and age.

Query does not rhyme with very,
Nor does fury sound like bury.
Dost, lost, post and doth, cloth, loth.
Job, nob, bosom, transom, oath.
Though the differences seem little,
We say actual but victual.
Refer does not rhyme with deafer.
Foeffer does, and zephyr, heifer.
Mint, pint, senate and sedate;
Dull, bull, and George ate late.
Scenic, Arabic, Pacific,
Science, conscience, scientific.

Liberty, library, heave and heaven,
Rachel, ache, moustache, eleven.
We say hallowed, but allowed,
People, leopard, towed, but vowed.
Mark the differences, moreover,
Between mover, cover, clover;
Leeches, breeches, wise, precise,
Chalice, but police and lice;
Camel, constable, unstable,
Principle, disciple, label.

Petal, panel, and canal,
Wait, surprise, plait, promise, pal.
Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, chair,
Senator, spectator, mayor.
Tour, but our and succour, four.
Gas, alas, and Arkansas.
Sea, idea, Korea, area,
Psalm, Maria, but malaria.
Youth, south, southern, cleanse and clean.
Doctrine, turpentine, marine.

Compare alien with Italian,
Dandelion and battalion.
Sally with ally, yea, ye,
Eye, I, ay, aye, whey, and key.
Say aver, but ever, fever,
Neither, leisure, skein, deceiver.
Heron, granary, canary.
Crevice and device and aerie.

Face, but preface, not efface.
Phlegm, phlegmatic, ass, glass, bass.
Large, but target, gin, give, verging,
Ought, out, joust and scour, scourging.
Ear, but earn and wear and tear
Do not rhyme with here but ere.
Seven is right, but so is even,
Hyphen, roughen, nephew Stephen,
Monkey, donkey, Turk and jerk,
Ask, grasp, wasp, and cork and work.

Pronunciation -- think of Psyche!
Is a paling stout and spikey?
Won't it make you lose your wits,
Writing groats and saying grits?
It's a dark abyss or tunnel:
Strewn with stones, stowed, solace, gunwale,
Islington and Isle of Wight,
Housewife, verdict and indict.

Finally, which rhymes with enough-
Though, through, plough, or dough, or cough?
Hiccough has the sound of cup.
My advice is to give it up!!!

Meryl Streep by =artistm0nk on deviantART

Artist's Comments:
Female actress with the most number of Oscar nominations. :D
Done on a Wacom CINTIQ + Alias Sketchbook Pro 2009.
About 3 days in the making. Digital art may not be my main field, but it is an exciting field, all the same. This turned out much better than my other Meryl Streep drawing which was done on the same software program but on a much older Wacom model. The results were too pasty or wet. This one was on a CINTIQ, and it's working definitely good.
Thanks for looking! :)
